Microdermabrasion at the Dermatology Center of Washington Township
Microdermabrasion is a treatment used by the Dermatology Center of Washington Township to gently exfoliate the top layer of skin and reveal the younger, healthier looking skin underneath. It is often used to treat:
- Acne scars
- Dry skin
- Fine lines
- Irregular pigmentation
- Large pores
- Loose skin
- Oily skin
The microdermabrasion process does not involve the use of chemicals, which makes it a suitable alternative to a chemical peel.
The Microdermabrasion Treatment Process
Our highly-trained Esthetician and dermatology technicians use suction to raise the area being treated and pull up impurities. Using a hand tool adjusted to the comfort level of the patient, a stream of crystals is sprayed onto the skin to encourage cellular turnover. A special brush may also be used on the skin during the treatment. Once exfoliation is complete, a vacuum is used to gently clean the area. The process typically only takes 30 minutes. For most individuals, four to six treatments tend to produce the desired results with treatments spaced approximately two weeks apart.
What to Know About the Side Effects
Immediately following the treatment, some slight swelling of the skin, redness, and sensitivity may occur. However, these should all dissipate within 24 hours. There is a chance that the treated area might flake slightly three or four days after the treatment. Most patients do not experience any other side effects.
Advantages of Microdermabrasion
There are many advantages to using chemical-free crystal abrasion treatments:
- Fewer risks and side effects
- No downtime for recovery
- Improved appearance and texture of skin
- Reduction in pore size and visibility of mild scars
Put simply, this method of skin exfoliation is a quick, easy and safe way to achieve a healthier and rejuvenated look to your skin.
